Job Summary

The Structural Steel Checker is responsible for reviewing and verifying structural steel shop drawings, connection details, and related documents to ensure accuracy, compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, and fabrication/erection requirements. The Checker identifies and reports any discrepancies or errors found and approves final drawings for submission. They contribute to maintaining high-quality standards in detailing and perform additional assigned tasks as directed by leadership. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Working with detailers and modelers to ensure quality of work.  

Qualification and Experience

·        Diploma or bachelor’s degree in civil / mechanical engineering.

·        Minimum 3+ years of experience in checking 3D-model, shop and erection drawings.            

(Please Do not include detailing or modeling experience).

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Possesses strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex structural designs.
  • Familiarity with relevant design codes and standards, such as the International Building Code (IBC), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards, and building regulations, is crucial for a checker. They should ensure that designs comply with these codes and standards. Clear understanding of OSHA and AISC codes is a must.
  • Should be skilled in Tekla, Bluebeam and able to review Revit files as required. They should be able to review and assess drawings for compliance with design requirements.
  • Effectively communicate their findings and recommendations to the Project Lead/Manager as well to the team members. Clear and concise communication is essential to address any issues and resolve design discrepancies.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Check Model and drawings thoroughly for accuracy and completeness.

·       Should verify architectural and other trades for miscellaneous steel and openings in the steel structure.

·       Check the connections per design details and based on erectability.

·       Ensure the detailing meets the industry and fabricator standards. 

·       Verify that the drawings meet the standards and regulations of relevant authorities and organizations.

·       Should be responsible for reviewing the discrepancies between the structural and architectural drawings and raise RFI’s (Request for information).

·       Approve final drawings for submission to the client. 

Coordination & Communication

  • Coordinate with detailers, engineers, project managers, and fabricators to resolve discrepancies.
  • Raise RFIs or comments when design intent is unclear or conflicts exist between structural and architectural drawings.
  • Provide clear, concise checking comments and follow up on corrections.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
