Construction Data Technician

Why this role exists

This role aims to improve clarity, accuracy, and predictability in construction projects through BIM data and advanced visualization techniques. It ensures that schedules and construction progress are coordinated and actionable for project teams. By translating field progress information into progress data and visual data, this role helps teams make quicker decisions, identify potential risks, and deliver high-quality results.

We are seeking detail-oriented professionals to support construction project teams by reviewing site images, drawings, and digital models and converting visual information into structured data. This role focuses on progress updates, object tagging, and status validation, and similar within drawings and 3D models to support accurate reporting, data mining and decision-making.

This is a visual-first data role—ideal for candidates who are comfortable interpreting construction information via drawing, images and models.

Key Responsibilities

Progress Tracking & Updates

  • Review site photos, drone imagery, and walkthrough videos to:
    • Identify completed, in-progress, and not-started work
    • Update activity or element-level progress percentages
  • Compare visual evidence against schedules, scopes, or model elements
  • Flag discrepancies between planned vs. actual progress

Drawing & Model-Based Data Entry

  • Tag construction elements (walls, slabs, MEP components, finishes, etc.) in:
    • 2D drawings
    • 3D/BIM models
  • Associate objects with:
    • Status (not started / in progress / complete)
    • Dates, quantities, or notes
  • Validate object naming, categorization, and alignment with standards

Quantity & Status Validation & Data Mining

  • Identify objects and tag them based on their categories in drawings or images or models for a large set of data
  • Perform basic quantity takeoffs from drawings or models like counts
  • Cross-check installed quantities using photos or model views

Data Quality & Reporting

  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and completeness of entered data
  • Maintain structured logs and metadata for traceability
  • Prepare summary inputs for dashboards or reports (no report writing required)

 

What you should bring

Core Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and consistency
  • Ability to interpret:
    • Construction drawings (architectural, structural, MEP)
    • Visual construction progress from photos/videos
  • Comfortable working with consistency, discipline, accuracy-driven tasks with dedication

Technical Skills (any combination)

  • Familiarity with:
    • PDF drawing viewers and markup tools
    • Spreadsheet-based data entry
    • Model viewers (BIM viewers, coordination tools, or web-based viewers)
  • Ability to learn new platforms and tagging workflows quickly

Domain Knowledge (Preferred, Not Mandatory)

  • Basic understanding of construction sequencing
  • Familiarity with common construction elements and terminology
  • Exposure to BIM or digital construction workflows is a plus
