We are seeking a motivated Construction Technical Services Leader to join our dynamic team delivering Design Services.
This individual will oversee all aspects of design and project management for construction phase services, such as temporary wall shoring, shoring/re-shoring of multi-story concrete framed buildings, rigging and lifting, as well as temporary loading and lifts on structural framing during the construction phrase with the focus being on services provided to the general contractor during the process of constructing a project. The role will be responsible for managing the technical design, quality assurance, and on-site engineering support for a range of projects supporting DPR globally, ensuring compliance with safety standards and client requirements.
The ideal candidate will have a robust background in structural engineering and hands-on experience with construction engineering, particularly in designing and implementing temporary support structures and construction staging plans. Creative problem solving, mentorship and development of a robust and responsive team across our Indian and US footprints will be key measures of success for this role. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following:
Technical Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and collaborate with the Design Services & On-Site team in the US and India, including Engineers, Drafters, and Project Managers & Field engineers and superintendants or key project staff, with a focus on shoring, temporary structures, and construction means and methods. Duties and Responsibilities
- Initial duties will include the technical development of a multi-disciplinary team utilizing resources in both India (vConstruct) as well as in the US(GPLA). Along with the technical guidance, development, and mentorship of the team, this role will be responsible for working with both vConstruct and GPLA staff to roll out to DPR a platform for connecting with project teams and enabling them to have ready and convenient access to a full service construction services team through a portal designed to facilitate both efficient and accurate transmission of necessary parameters as well as tracking of deliverables.
- Develop & Manage project specific deliverables to schedule, cost and quality
- Manage risk and opportunities related to Temp works
- Oversee the design and analysis of temporary structures such as shoring, scaffolding, formwork, and bracing systems to ensure safety, stability, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Oversee Development of detailed construction staging plans, including sequencing and methodology, to optimize safety and efficiency on site.
- Provide technical guidance on construction means and methods, including the selection of materials, equipment, and techniques for temporary works.
- Collaborate with contractors, architects, and other stakeholders to develop and refine engineering solutions that support construction objectives.
- Oversee the outcomes of site visits and inspections done by site team to assess the implementation of shoring and temporary structures, ensuring conformance to design specifications and safety requirements as and when necessary.
- Prepare and review technical reports, construction documents, and calculations related to shoring and temporary works.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the post-mortem forensic evaluations of incidents on site to provide timely and relevant feedback to DPR in the assessment of safety incidents related to structural work and suggestions for improvements with help from onsite teams
Standards & Quality Systems Development
- Drive continuous improvement of technical delivery processes based on lessons learned and industry best practices
- Analyze patterns in technical failures or near-misses to develop preventive solutions and training programs
- Champion a proactive approach to technical quality—establishing systems that catch problems in design rather than construction
- Lead the development of technical standards, design guidelines, and quality control protocols that prevent issues before they occur at site
- Reduce DPR's exposure to construction defects, warranty claims, and technical liability through proactive quality oversightActively monitor and understand new and emerging technologies impacting temporary work
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of construction means and methods, including experience with complex sequencing and temporary works.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, RISA, RAM, AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla).
- Experience with design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, OSHA, and relevant local regulations.
- Excellent leadership skills with a track record of technical excellence, flawless project delivery & team coaching and mentorship.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple projects with varying priorities.
- Ability to guide a team of engineers and other specialists and develop and implement a strategy to more effectively support DPR across all projects.
- Ability to travel regularly between India and the US to attend meetings and visit project sites
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering. Master’s degree in Structural Engineering or Construction Engineering is preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
- 15 + years of experience in structural engineering and construction management, with at least five years specifically in the design and management of shoring and temporary structures.
