Why this role exists
This role exists to deliver accurate, reliable electrical quantity takeoffs and cost estimates that enable predictable project delivery. By translating design intent into actionable estimates, this role helps project teams make informed decisions, identify risks early, and ensure projects are delivered efficiently and with high quality.
What you will own
Project Delivery & Estimation
- Develop precise quantity takeoffs and estimates for electrical scopes using CSI Uniformat/MasterFormat coding.
- Quantify electrical trade packages including medium & low voltage power distribution, lighting & controls, low voltage systems (data, communications, security, AV, fire alarm, BMS), generator, and UPS systems.
- Review drawings, RFIs, models, and specifications to identify gaps, missing details, and discrepancies.
- Leverage 3D models for quantification and comparison across design versions; develop 3D models from 2D drawings as needed.
- Provide early-stage conceptual estimates when design details are limited.
- Track and communicate design changes and their impact on estimates.
Client & Team Collaboration
- Collaborate with international project teams via emails and virtual meetings to ensure alignment on deliverables.
- Build strong relationships with onsite teams, customers, and colleagues at vConstruct.
- Coordinate across multiple scopes and disciplines to ensure integrated outcomes.
Process Development & Innovation
- Document workflows and develop execution plans for new scopes, tools, or processes.
- Train team members on updated processes, technologies, and best practices.
- Expand knowledge into other estimating areas while maintaining focus on electrical systems.
A day in this role
A typical day begins with reviewing project documents, RFIs, and models to identify gaps or updates. You develop electrical quantity takeoffs, update 3D models, and ensure estimates align with project goals. You participate in virtual coordination meetings with global teams, communicate changes or issues, and integrate feedback into models and estimates. Time is spent documenting workflows, improving estimation processes, and mentoring team members.
What you should bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Quantity Surveying specialization preferred).
- 2+ years of experience in electrical estimating/quantification for building construction.
- Knowledge of US, European, or Indian electrical construction documents and standards.
- Proficiency in Revit, Assemble, CostX, OST, Planswift, or equivalent estimation software.
- Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, load schedules, panel schedules, and lighting layouts.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, with a “can-do” attitude and ability to work independently.
- Professional certifications such as RICS or AACE are a plus.
What will make your application stand out
- Experience producing electrical quantity takeoffs for complex MEP systems.
- Proficiency in integrating 3D model data into estimating workflows.
- Familiarity with early-stage conceptual estimating and design iteration tracking.
- Ability to train or mentor colleagues on electrical estimation processes.
- Strong coordination skills across global teams and multiple project scopes.
- Curiosity and initiative to explore new tools, processes, and automation for electrical estimation.
